My Testimony, April Kick
I was adopted into the Kick Family when I was really young. While growing up, both of my parents did foster care. My mom yelled a lot, when she did this I was scared…My mom kept telling me that we are Christians while I was growing up but we never stepped one foot in a church. So I know about God, but didn’t go any further. I started doing Rainbow Girls, didn’t like it much so I went into Jobs Daughters. I did that because I really enjoyed it.
My mom was verbally abusive while growing up and it got worse as I grew older. I started going to church in 2006, with my son. I went to Faith Community Church, in Ocean Shores and was baptized in January of 2007 it was then I started my walk with the Lord. All this time with my mom, she was still verbally abusive. The verbal abuse started getting worse, when my mom found out that I didn’t want to do the in home child care anymore, and wanted to move. My friend came in February and my mom was very verbally abuse towards my friend. I didn’t like that so I left, for a month. I came back a month later and the verbal abuse was worse. I couldn’t keep going with this. Both Pastor Shinner and Karen Arbogast were helping me through all of this. I couldn’t live with my mom any more, I needed out.
Pastor Jim told me about SAFE Family Ministries. I looked at him and told him yes I would like to go. He called Ms. Bea and she said that she had a room for both my son and I. Since I have been at SAFE I am growing in the Lord. I am also learning a lot about myself and I have also reconciled my relationship with my mom and as of today I am talking more with my mom. The Lord is still working in my mom and me. I have learned to trust more in the Lord, since I’ve been here.
